The Paris Classic 6" Chef's Knife

Originally designed to slice and disjoint large cuts of beef, the chef's knife today it is the primary general-utility knife for most western cooks. The Paris Classic 6" Chef's Knife is durable, flexible, and resistant to wear. With a steel blade and easy-grip handle, every kitchen should be adorned with at least one high quality chef's knife. Made in the cutlery capital of the world, Peugeot guarantees satisfaction every time.

The Upsetting Technique

Instead of softening the whole piece of steel, Peugeot uses a technique called ‘upsetting’. Only the part that will turn into the ricasso will be heated (forged) to preserve the authenticity (hardness, resistance to corrosion) of the steel that will be used for the blade. Once heated and softened, a ball is formed by upsetting, then hit to create the ricasso. The blade is finally cut to its final shape. This unique technique is one of the many reasons why Peugeot products stand out.

The Cutlery Capital of the World

The Peugeot adventure started in the 19th century in Thiers, France with a flurry of ingenious code-setting creations. To this day, Peugeot knives set the standards for gourmets and great chefs alike. Since 1850, the lion has epitomized the quality of Peugeot products. Thiers is the world capital of knife-making. With 8 centuries of savoir-faire, this medieval town is perched on a rocky outcrop facing The Chaîne des Puys, a north-south oriented chain of cinder cones, lava domes, and maars in the Massif Central of France. Renowned for its specialty in cutlery, striking architecture, and narrow winding streets, Thiers has become a destination of world tourism.

  • Cutting Surface: Use your knives preferably a wooden chopping board. Not recommended: tile, ceramic, synthetic, stone or glass cutting boards.
  • Care: We recommend that you wash your Peugeot knives immediately after use, with a nonabrasive sponge or a soft cloth soaked in soapy water. After rinsing, wipe immediately with a dry tea towel.
  • Honing/Sharpening: Weekly honing recommended to extend the time between sharpening. In order to ensure that the cutting edge of your knife remains effective and the knife remains comfortable to use, we recommend regular sharpening, rather than waiting for the blade edge to become blunt. About every two months for normal domestic use.
  • Storage: Avoid bringing the cutting edge in contact with other utensils. Best practice is to use a wooden knife block or in-drawer knife tray, or knife case.
